Every employer in South Africa must register with the Compensation Fund under COIDA. Your Letter of Good Standing proves you're registered and up to date with payments.
What is COIDA?
COIDA stands for Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act. It provides compensation to employees (or their families) for:
- Occupational injuries
- Occupational diseases
- Death arising from work
Who Must Register?
Every employer with one or more employees must register. This includes:
- Construction companies
- All trades (electricians, plumbers, etc.)
- Even one-person operations with casual labour
Why Do You Need a Letter of Good Standing?
You need it for:
- **Tenders** - mandatory for government work
- **Site access** - principal contractors require it

How to Register
New Registration
- Go to **www.labour.gov.za**
- Download form W.As.2 (Application for Registration)
- Complete the form with:
- Company details
- Number of employees
- Annual wages paid
- Type of work
- Submit to Department of Labour
- Receive your registration number

- Complete online application
- Upload supporting documents

How to Get Your Letter of Good Standing
Once registered, you can get your Letter of Good Standing:

- Go to **https://uifregistration.labour.gov.za/**
- Log in with your details
- Request Letter of Good Standing
- Download immediately
In Person
- Visit your nearest Department of Labour office
- Request the letter
- Provide your registration number
- Collect same day or within 3 days
Assessment and Payments
The Compensation Fund will assess your annual contribution based on:
- Number of employees
- Annual earnings
- Industry classification (risk rating)
You must pay your assessment annually to maintain good standing.
Common Problems
- **Can't find registration number** - contact DoL with company details
- **Outstanding payments** - settle arrears to get good standing
- **Website down** - try early morning or visit office
